Your photo is micro-printed inside the gem at the centre of the piece. It is permanent, and there is no screen, battery or app involved. There are three ways to see it.
1. Look straight into the gem
Hold the piece close to your eye, in good light, and look directly into the centre of the gem. Your photo is there in full colour. It takes a moment to find the angle — move it slowly until the image comes into focus.
2. Point your phone camera at it
Open your phone’s camera, hold the gem a few centimetres from the lens and zoom in. The photo appears on your screen, much larger and easier to share with someone standing next to you. This is the easiest way to show it to another person.
3. Shine your phone torch through it
In a dimly lit room, switch on your phone torch and hold the gem directly in front of the light, a short distance from a pale wall. The light passing through the gem projects your photo onto the wall as a large circle of light.
Getting the clearest image
Bright, well-lit photos with a clear subject work best. Busy backgrounds and very dark images are harder to make out at this size — see our photo upload guide for how to choose the right picture.
